Northwell Direct is the employee health plan for Northwell Health workers and their dependents. It’s a relatively new plan, and many local therapy practices haven’t yet updated their panels — meaning Northwell Direct members often run into “we don’t take that” answers when calling around.

• Sessions covered: Northwell Direct plans typically cover unlimited medically necessary sessions
• Authorization: Generally not required for outpatient therapy

A note on healthcare-worker mental health

Many of our Northwell Direct patients work in healthcare themselves. Working in a hospital or clinical setting carries specific stressors — vicarious trauma, moral injury, burnout, secondary PTSD, scheduling-induced sleep disruption. Several of our clinicians work routinely with healthcare workers and understand the nuances of the work.
