Teen Therapy in Smithtown, NY

By Happy Pro, Counseling Team · May 30, 2026 · 2 min read

Most teens who come to us from Smithtown do not present as a textbook case. They show up looking burned out from a year that asked too much, irritable, or quietly anxious about a college search that has just started. Treatable, almost every time.

The Smithtown school district is one of the larger and higher-rated public systems in Suffolk County. With that comes pressure: AP loads, college recruiting in sports, social hierarchies that are real, and parents who care enough to want to help but not always sure how. Teen therapy here often starts with making space the teen actually wants to use.

How teen therapy works here

For teens we lean on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) adapted for adolescents, motivational work that respects autonomy, and parent coaching on the side. For trauma we use EMDR with adolescents and their families. Most teens stabilize inside ten to fifteen sessions; the parent coaching often continues a bit longer.

What it costs

Most Smithtown households use commercial PPO plans through NYC or Long Island employers. We are in network with the major plans and verify your specific benefits in writing before your first session. With most in-network plans (Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, Northwell Direct), the typical out of pocket cost is between $0 and $40 per session, depending on your specific plan. Coverage may vary; we check your specific benefits in writing before your first session at no cost. Send your insurance information here.

If we are not in network with your plan, you may still have out of network benefits that reimburse a portion. The payment options page walks through the Mentaya tool to check that quickly. Self-pay rates are listed there too.

Same-week openings, most weeks

We hold intake capacity so most weeks we can get you in within days, not months. Sessions are in person at our Long Island office or by secure video anywhere in New York State.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

How private are sessions with my teen?
Teen sessions are confidential within the legal limits (safety). We coordinate with parents via separate sessions or check-ins so the trust with the teen is preserved.
Do you coordinate with the school?
Yes, with the parent's written consent. School collaboration is often a key part of the plan.
