Anxiety therapy that actually works — and starts this week

Anxiety is the most common mental health concern in the United States — and one of the often responds well to support. With evidence-based therapy, most people find this helpful .

The hard part isn’t whether therapy works. It’s getting started, finding a therapist who specializes in anxiety, and not waiting six weeks for a first appointment when you’re already overwhelmed.

We offer same-week intake for new patients. In-network with most major commercial insurance. Call (631) 371-2718.

What kinds of anxiety we treat

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) — chronic worry, “always on,” racing thoughts
  • Panic disorder — sudden physical attacks, fear of future attacks
  • Social anxiety — fear of judgment, performance, social situations
  • Specific phobias — flying, driving, dental, medical, elevators, public speaking
  • Health anxiety — preoccupation with physical symptoms, fear of illness
  • Performance anxiety — work, athletic, academic, sexual
  • Anticipatory anxiety — worry about future events that hijacks the present

We work with anxiety as a primary concern and as it appears alongside depression, trauma, ADHD, and life transitions.

How we treat anxiety

Several evidence-based approaches, matched to what fits you:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — the most-studied therapy for anxiety. Identifies and shifts the thought patterns that generate and maintain anxiety. Combined with behavioral skills (exposure, behavioral activation).

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — particularly useful when anxiety is chronic. Focuses on changing your relationship to anxious thoughts rather than eliminating them, plus values-driven action.

Exposure therapy — gold-standard treatment for phobias and panic disorder. Gradual, structured exposure to feared situations until the fear loses its grip.

EMDR — particularly useful when anxiety has identifiable origins (a specific event, repeated experiences). Several of our clinicians are EMDRIA-trained.

Mindfulness-based approaches — body-aware techniques to interrupt the anxiety cycle in real time.

Most clinicians integrate across these — your therapy isn’t locked into one modality.

What to expect

Sessions 1-3: Building rapport, understanding your specific anxiety patterns, identifying triggers, setting goals.

Sessions 4-12: Active treatment — skills, exposure, cognitive work, possibly EMDR if appropriate.

Sessions 13+: Consolidation, relapse prevention, addressing remaining patterns.

In-person + telehealth — both work for anxiety

Anxiety treatment outcomes via telehealth are equivalent to in-person for most adult anxiety conditions. We offer both — most patients do a mix.

For panic disorder and severe phobias, in-person can sometimes be more effective for the exposure components. Your therapist will guide.
