Therapy in Southampton — without the 6-week wait
Most outpatient therapy practices on the East End of Long Island are full. When you call, the standard answer is “we’re booking out 6 to 8 weeks” — or worse, “we’re not taking new patients.”
Happy Pro Counseling is different. We hold intake appointments specifically for new patients each week. When you call us, you’re usually in for a first session within 2-7 days.
We’re based at Southampton, NY, easy access from Hampton Bays, Bridgehampton, North Sea, and Water Mill.
What we treat
Our clinicians work with kids, teens, and adults across the full range of common mental health concerns:
- Anxiety (generalized, social, panic, phobias)
- Depression and mood concerns
- Trauma and PTSD (including EMDR-trained clinicians)
- Grief and loss
- Relationship and family conflict
- Couples therapy
- ADHD support and coaching
- School anxiety and refusal
- Behavioral concerns in kids
- Identity and life-transition work
- Burnout and stress management
We don’t take everything — for active eating disorders, severe psychiatric conditions requiring inpatient stabilization, or children under 5, we’ll refer you to specialists who do that better.
Insurance we accept
We’re in-network with:
- Aetna
- Cigna
- UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
- Oxford (UnitedHealthcare’s regional brand)
- Northwell Direct (Northwell Health employee plan)
If you have one of these, your out-of-pocket per session is typically a copay of $20-$40. We verify your specific coverage before your first appointment, so there are no billing surprises.
If you have a different plan, call us anyway — we can usually point you toward your best path (out-of-network reimbursement, a specific clinician on a different panel, sliding scale, or other in-network practices).
Why same-week intake matters
The hardest moment in starting therapy is often the day you decide you actually need it. Six weeks is a long time when you’re in distress — things shift, motivation fades, and the urgency that prompted the call gets buried under daily life.
Our model is built around that reality. We’ve staffed specifically so that new patients can be seen quickly, in person at our Southampton office or via telehealth across New York State.
Telehealth + in-person — both work, switch anytime
You don’t have to pick one. Most of our patients do a mix — sometimes in-person at our Southampton office, sometimes by video from home, work, or while traveling within New York State. Switching session-to-session is normal and works clinically.
Telehealth is covered by all our in-network insurance plans at the same rate as in-person sessions.
Our team
- Multiple LCSWs and LMHCs trained across modalities — CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, psychodynamic, family systems
- EMDR-trained clinicians for trauma, anxiety, and grief
- A school social worker on staff for IEP/504 coordination and school anxiety cases
- Specialists in kids and teens — child-focused training, not just generalist clinicians
- Bilingual options available — ask when you call
Every patient is matched with the clinician who fits their specific concern, schedule, and preference. If the first match doesn’t work, we transition you internally — no starting over.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How quickly can I be seen? A: For most new patients, within 2-7 days. We hold intake slots specifically for this purpose.
Q: Do you offer therapy for kids and teens? A: Yes — we have clinicians who specialize in pediatric and adolescent care. Read more in our blog post on therapy for kids and teens on Long Island.
Q: Do you take Medicare or Medicaid? A: Medicare and Medicaid coverage varies by plan. Call us with your specific plan name and we’ll verify in 24 hours.
Q: What’s the difference between in-person and telehealth? A: Clinically, very little for most concerns. Logistically — telehealth is more convenient, in-person is sometimes preferred for first sessions or for younger kids. You can switch anytime.
Q: Do I need a referral? A: Most plans don’t require a referral for outpatient mental health. We’ll let you know if yours is an exception.
Q: What does a session cost without insurance? A: Self-pay sessions are $[rate] for individual therapy. We may have sliding-scale slots available — ask when you call.
